Marquette Interchange
The Marquette Interchange is a gateway to Wisconsin and a vital connector that links almost one-third of the state's freeway traffic to the rest of the country. The original interchange, finished in 1968, has grown to carry more than 300,000 vehicles per day, more than double its original design specification.
PDM Bridge is playing a vital role in the project. The project will generate approximately a 20% increase in PDM's workforce and produce over $124,000,000 of economic impact to Wisconsin
from PDM Bridge.
PDM Bridge started shipping the first girders in June of 2006 and completed, ahead of schedule in 2008.
PDM Bridge will fabricate approximately 42,000,000 pounds of structural steel for the project. Over 350 Wisconsin employees will be involved in the fabrication alone.
The project consists of 17 new bridge structures which if laid end-to-end, would stretch a total of 14 miles! PDM Bridge is one of the largest manufacturers of steel bridges in the United States with the capacity to perform the entire project.
The Project was awarded to Marquette Constructors, a joint venture of Wisconsin based contractors at a total bid price of $360,000,000.
Interesting Facts:
- The new bridge structures will be made up of 601 plate girders and 204 trapezoidal tub girders. Approximately 14 miles of girders!
- Over 544,475 feet of weld in the girders. That equals a little over 103 miles of welding in the project.
- Approximately 45,000 gallons of paint will be used for coating the structural steel.
- Over 900 truck shipments of fabricated steel will be contracted by a Wisconsin based trucking company.
