Fabrication

PDM Bridge boasts four fabrication facilities equipped with CNC cutting, drilling, and milling capabilities, and staffed with skilled CWIs, production planning teams, and experienced bridge fabricators and painters. Each of our plants has its own unique strengths and assets which makes PDM the optimal choice for any type of steel bridge.

Eau Claire, WI
Our Eau Claire facility has a history that stretches back 150 years to Phoenix Steel which was acquired by Pitt-Des Moines in 1994. With 265,000 sq. ft. of interior space on a 60-acre lot and a lifting capacity of 120 tons, the Eau Claire plant is PDM’s largest facility and is capable of handling multiple large jobs concurrently. Eau Claire excels at complex moveable bridge structures, while also focusing on plate girder, truss, and arch fabrication.

Wausau, WI
Our Wausau plant, formerly Hartwig Manufacturing, is a mid-sized bridge fabrication facility located 90 miles east of Eau Claire in the heart of Wisconsin. The Wausau facility is capable of efficiently handling production line, commodity type work in their huge bridge bay. While specializing in plate girder fabrication, Wausau also works closely with our Eau Claire plant to fabricate components for larger bridges.

Palatka, FL
In 1997, PDM acquired Sheffield Steel in Palatka, Florida, allowing us to branch into new construction markets in the Southeast. With 220,000 sq. ft. of covered space for fabrication, a 55-acre storage and assembly yard, and a 200-ton lifting capacity, Palatka has fabricated many notable projects including the largest bascule bridge in the US and the longest cable-stay bridge over the Mississippi River. Located on the St. Johns River, the plant is equipped with a barge dock to load and transport completed work for shipment through the inter-coastal waterways.

Proctor, MN
In 2010, PDM acquired Dynamic Structural Steel in Proctor, MN, a modern structural steel fabricator. Our Proctor plant has since added bridge work to their repertoire, incorporating their technology and efficient straight-line fabrication process. Located just 150 miles north of Eau Claire, Proctor has its own trucking fleet, which allows for streamlined shipping and easy collaboration with our Eau Claire plant on bridge components.
